31st Ebony Jewels & Gems Cotillion
Dayton, Ohio – Beta Eta Omega Chapter celebrated its 31st Ebony Jewels & Gems Cotillion on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Dayton Convention Center. The theme was “Celebrating Dreams and Possibilities”. Twenty-nine Jewels and four Gems beautifully attired in flowing white dresses and stylish white tuxedos graced the floor of the Dayton Convention Center under the direction of Mr. James White, choreographer, to an audience of over 1000 people.
The Toastmistress and Toastmaster were Letitia Perry and Garth Adams. Co-Chairs were Carol Prewitt and A’Senah Taylor. The 2011 Jewels and Gems were: Zuri Ali, Tiara Bostock, Kaila Brown, Alyce Coles, Kourtney Collins, Tiarra Comer, Elizabeth Cromartie, Ellyn Davis, ToMaris Davis, Roniea Dixon, De’ja Durham, Destiney Gary, Ruby Gray, Zaria Gray, Bria Groves, Antonett Hall, Lexus Herd, Rejae` Jackson, Ray Long, III, Deme` Maddox, Courtnee` Moore, Shamba Muhammad, Da’Sanae Norvell, Maura Patillo, Amber Payne, Tyra Simmons, Darryl Smith, II, A’vion Stewart, Shanice Trotter, D’Arco Wilks, Countess Williams, Le’Ondra Wooding, and Asha Wooten.
Scholarship recipients were: Zuri Ali, Tiara Bostock, Kaila Brown, Alyce Coles, Kourtney Collins, Ellyn Davis, ToMaris Davis, De’ja Durham, Zaria Gray, Bria Groves, Courtnee Moore, Amber Payne, Darryl Smith, II, Shanice Trotter, D’Arco Wilks, and Le’Ondra Wooding. A total of $20,000 was awarded.
The Jewels and Gems participated in various leadership enrichment sessions and A Talent Showcase for the Socially Conscientious Teen-Age Mind where they presented in the form of a skit, social issues that interfere with being successful. Winners received monetary awards. They presented over 100 toiletry items to the Mustard Seed Foundation as a community project.
